Adventures of a Park Ranger's Wife

Life through the eyes of a State Park Ranger's wife

January 2014

Busy busy busy

Well I haven’t written in a while. A lot of things have happened. B completed his longer weeks for Range training and defensive tactics. He even made a point of coming home the second week for the night. But I think that was because he thought I would go into labor.

He wasn’t too far off. Early Tuesday morning (about 2 am) I started getting contractions. I woke my mom an hour later, when I was certain I was having contractions. We eventually went  into the hospital at 5 am. Unfortunately I wasn’t ready enough to be admitted. So we walked around the hospital until I was “doubled over” in pain as the nurse on duty said. Eventually that pain came and I would later learn that I was in back labor. Let me tell you that is not fun. I spent a good chunk of time shaking from the pain. I did get an epidural, which helped a lot! However, I will let you know that something went wrong and the pain came back. They had to give me something to up the medication.

Finally at 12:07 am our little boy arrived. He was 8 lbs 4 oz and 20 inches. And as a very biased mother he is beautiful.

So for those desperate to know why, you now know what’s going on 🙂

6 Days a Week

B has started his 6 days a week for tue academy. And will probably continue on that schedule through February.  He has done very well on his tests lately and I know I am hoping this continues.

The class has been split into two groups,  group 1 spent the first half of the week at the gun range and group 2 spent the first half on defensive tactics training. Yesterday everyone switched. Next week they will begin again at their original assignments.

B has gotten the approval to have his phone on him as well as on in case I go into labor while he is training.  It’s only a matter of time before we meet the newest member of our family. I had a doctor appointment on Wednesday and will have another one next Friday. Everything seems to be going well. Baby boy is head down and in the correct position. My Braxton Hicks are amping up and starting to be painful. So we just have to  wait for a few more things to kick in and we are good to go. Family and friends are placing bets on when exactly the baby will arrive.

After the holidays

B was able to come home for the week of Christmas and New Year’s day. The baby made out like a bandit for Christmas. I’m pretty sure he got more stuff than anyone else.

B and I are also constantly watching our bank accounts because of the Target store hacking.  I’m sure more then a few of you are in the same boat.

We were able to pick up a few last minute things for the baby off the registries,  thanks to discounts provided by the stores. We are in good shape. We just have to wait for the guest of honor.

I have dropped and will have my first weekly doctor appointment on Wednesday.  I am looking forward to finding out if the baby is in the correct position and if we really are all set for birth.
